Digitization
Digitization in the seaport of Wismar
Innovations for the maritime logistics of the future
The seaport of Wismar has established digitalization as a central pillar of its corporate strategy. As a forward-looking port operator, we rely on innovative digital solutions to optimize our processes, increase efficiency and offer our customers from the steel industry added value. We are shaping the maritime logistics of the future through intelligent networking and data-based decision-making processes.

Digital transformation:
Our vision
The digital transformation of the seaport of Wismar is more than just a technological upgrade. It is a comprehensive change that permeates all areas of our company and opens up new opportunities for innovation, efficiency and sustainability. Our goal is to create a smart port that is characterized by transparent, efficient and resource-saving processes by intelligently linking physical infrastructure and digital technologies.
5G campus network:
The digital backbone of the port
As part of the “Portable 5.0” joint project, we are building a company-owned 5G campus network that will serve as the digital backbone of our port infrastructure. This high-performance technology enables real-time communication between different systems and devices, creating the basis for numerous applications:
- Real-time monitoring of logistics processes
- Fast and secure data transmission for autonomous vehicles
- Reliable communication for remote maintenance and control
- Basis for augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) in maintenance and training

Digital twin:
Virtual image of the real port
A core project of our digitalization strategy is the development of a digital twin of the seaport of Wismar. This virtual port maps all relevant processes, facilities and infrastructure in real time and enables us to simulate, optimize and predict processes. The digital twin offers numerous advantages:
- Optimization of logistics processes through simulation of various scenarios
- Predictive maintenance of systems and infrastructure
- Improved resource planning and utilization
- Transparent visualization of complex processes for better decision-making
- Training employees in a risk-free virtual environment
Digital control center:
Control center for port operations
Our digital control center is the central control unit of the seaport of Wismar. This is where all the information comes together and is visualized in real time to provide an overview of the entire port operation. The digital control center supports the scheduling, planning and monitoring of all processes:
- Visualization of ship movements, berths and handling processes
- Monitoring systems, vehicles and infrastructure
- Planning and control of goods handling
- Coordination of all players in the port
- Early detection of faults and rapid initiation of countermeasures
