Employee orientation
A company can only stay on course successfully if its team works together in a motivated and qualified manner. At Wismar Seaport, we encourage and promote the personal responsibility and development of all employees. We strengthen their satisfaction and build on reliability and continuity.
To this end, we involve our employees in all areas of quality and environmental protection as well as occupational health and safety. As one of the most attractive employers in the north, a corporate culture that benefits all employees is one of our most important goals.
Occupational health and safety
At the seaport of Wismar, we ensure a healthy working environment – literally: we are committed to the well-being of our employees, service providers and suppliers through active health management and regular instruction on occupational safety. For us, health is a particularly valuable asset. Last but not least, it forms the foundation for the performance of our entire team.
As part of our occupational health and safety program, we raise awareness of issues such as
- observing and ensuring order and cleanliness at work
- avoiding unnecessary hazards for our employees and third parties
- following all instructions on occupational health and safety
- compliance with prohibitions and rules (e.g. the ban on alcohol and drugs and the ban on smoking in areas or vehicles that are not expressly permitted or marked)
- the intended use and careful handling of the personal protective equipment provided
- checking and using all work equipment as intended before each use by visually inspecting it for safe condition and suitability
- working in a safety and health-conscious manner
- the safe handling of hazardous substances
- reporting or independently remedying identified defects, where possible
- Addressing and/or reporting behavior that violates safety regulations
Environmental protection
Economically focused, ecologically aware. At the seaport of Wismar, we actively contribute to the protection of our natural environment through holistically sustainable management. Our main focus is on reducing environmental pollution. In addition, we convey to our employees, service providers and suppliers a consistently environmentally conscious way of thinking and acting.
We attach great importance to this:
- to comply with all relevant laws and to observe and implement the resulting requirements
- to procure and use environmentally friendly and energy-saving products and to use replacement purchases
- Using energy, water, materials and other resources sparingly and consciously
- Consciously monitor processes and systems in order to report and eliminate leaks
- Switch off motors during long downtimes
- Substitute hazardous substances and store and use necessary hazardous substances in accordance with the law
- avoid waste as far as possible and dispose of unavoidable waste in an environmentally friendly manner
- Actively involve employees and external contractual partners in environmental protection and develop measures for improvement
Social responsibility
As a company, we bear a great deal of responsibility for our society and the environment. It therefore goes without saying that we are committed to social interaction in our region. We are proud to have supported numerous groups and associations through various partnerships for many years.
One of the projects close to our hearts is our collaboration with the Mercy Ships organization. This organization brings hope and healing to the poorest of the poor with hospital ships. We admire the commitment and dedication of the people at Mercy Ships and support this important work.
Quality management
Processes and services at the highest level – that is the benchmark for our work. In order to provide you, our customers, with optimum services at all times, we have established a certified quality management system at Wismar seaport some time ago.
It primarily includes the following tasks:
- actively taking responsibility for our company and for the satisfaction of our customers
- Achieving optimal work results through reliable, punctual and flexible action, timely communication and mutual respect
- Ensuring the professional development of our company in line with requirements through sound training and further education of our employees
- Compliance with all operational rules to achieve the highest quality and freedom from damage in all our processes
- Increasing the quality awareness of our staff and our service providers and suppliers
- Regular quality and efficiency checks of own and adjacent processes for continuous optimization
- Prompt recording, analysis and elimination of process deviations
- Maintaining order and cleanliness, independent and prompt reporting of damage and breakdowns
